Obesity and metabolic syndrome can present significant barriers to transplant eligibility, surgical readiness, and access to transplantation. For patients navigating these challenges, achieving and maintaining transplant readiness often requires more than weight management alone. This webinar will explore the intersection of obesity, metabolic health, physical function, and transplant candidacy, with a focus on practical strategies to help patients remain viable candidates throughout the transplant journey. Drawing on experience as an exercise physiologist and a transplant surgeon, the presentation will highlight the role of exercise, behavioral change, digital health tools, and prehabilitation in supporting patients before transplantation.
Describe the role of exercise and prehabilitation in maintaining physical function and surgical readiness among patients preparing for transplantation.
Identify patient-level or system-level barriers that may prevent individuals with obesity or metabolic health challenges from achieving or maintaining transplant readiness.
Apply strategies for incorporating exercise, behavioral change, or prehabilitation into the care of transplant patients experiencing obesity-related barriers.
