The Alliance Advancement Series
Presented on: Thursday, November 19, 2020
While the effect on those who have been infected with the COVID-19 has been varied, some patients have experienced devastating consequences. This predominantly respiratory virus has lead in some to pulmonary fibrosis, which has been so severe that Lung Transplantation has been the only option to allow patients the possibility of recovery. This Webinar will present an overview of COVID-19 and a case study of a patient who required lung transplantation for COVID-19 associated pulmonary fibrosis. The expert panel will discuss patient selection and evaluation, psychosocial implications of transplantation and the intense post-transplant care that the patient requires.
At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:
- Define the epidemiology and impact of COVID-19 in high risk patients, including those with end organ failure.
- Identify approaches for prevention and treatment of COVID-19.
- Discuss the evaluation and treatment of a patient with end-stage lung disease due to COVID-19 requiring lung transplantation.
- Describe the associated post-transplant psychosocial and nursing care that is required.
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
