Live Advancement Series

The Alliance Learning Programs

This webinar brings together experts in transplantation and organ preservation to examine emerging strategies aimed not only at mitigating ischemic injury, but at actively assessing, rehabilitating, and improving thoracic organ function during perfusion. In the heart and lung space, where transplantation continues to be challenged by donor organ availability, DCD pathways, and the growing need to safely evaluate and utilize marginal or extended-criteria organs, advances in perfusion technology are creating new opportunities to expand the donor pool and improve post-transplant outcomes. The session will explore evolving approaches to heart and lung preservation and perfusion, with a focus on how these technologies may help optimize organ quality and inform clinical decision-making prior to transplantation.
• Describe how emerging perfusion interventions can be used to assess, rehabilitate, and optimize marginal heart and lung grafts, including organs recovered through DCD pathways
• Explain how advances in thoracic organ perfusion may influence organ utilization and post-transplant outcomes.
• Identify current challenges and opportunities in thoracic organ preservation and perfusion, including barriers to clinical adoption and strategies for integrating emerging technologies into routine transplant practice.

Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
