Hypothermic Machine Perfusion (HMP) Programs: Strategies for Establishing a Successful Hospital-Based Renal HMP Program

Presented on: Tuesday, March 22, 2022

This webinar will explore effective strategies for implementing a successful perfusion program at a transplant center with respect to renal imports. Some transplant centers are working from the ground up and are unsure of how to best develop this type of program. Bearing this in mind, we will be joined by Laura Stillion and Molly Urbancic from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center who will highlight how they managed to build an HMP program. They will review the successes, challenges, and potential opportunities for improvement as it relates to HMP programs.

  • Explain the benefits of utilizing hypothermic machine perfusion for renal preservation.
  • Identify the benefits of establishing a transplant center hypothermic machine perfusion program, which include reducing delayed graft function and increasing kidney transplantation.
  • Describe the steps involved to implement a hypothermic machine perfusion program at their transplant center including potential barriers and recommended solutions.
