Presented on: Thursday, April 27, 2023
The University of Minnesota and Mass General have established a collaborative partnership to extend preservation to achieve more sharing of organs, optimization of matching, and expanded reach of transplant. In this Advancement Series, we will hear from the University of Minnesota about their focus on cryopreservation and their successes and challenges. We will explore potential policy, societal, ethical implications of true “organ banking”, especially regarding equity in the transplantation system.
- Describe the current state and capabilities of organ preservation today, and why traditional approaches to organ cryopreservation fail.
- Explain what vitrification is and how to achieve it for organ cryopreservation.
- Discuss ethical, legal, policy, societal implications that must considered to achieve organ cryopreservation.
