The Alliance Conversation Series
Organ transplantation is a life-saving intervention, but the journey from diagnosis to post-transplant recovery presents significant emotional and psychological challenges. Within Hispanic communities, this experience is further shaped by unique cultural, social, and systemic factors that influence how mental health is perceived, addressed, and treated throughout the transplant process. This webinar will examine the intersection of mental health and organ transplantation in Hispanic populations, highlighting key areas such as pre- and post-transplant psychological stressors, cultural beliefs and stigma surrounding mental health, barriers to accessing culturally sensitive care within transplant settings, the influence of Hispanic cultural values on mental health and transplant outcomes, and the mental health implications of persistent disparities in access to healthcare.
- Identify key mental health challenges faced by Hispanic patients undergoing organ transplantation.
- Describe the cultural and systemic barriers to accessing mental health care and transplantation in this population.
- Explore strategies for delivering culturally responsive psychosocial support.
- Discuss interdisciplinary approaches to improving mental health outcomes in transplant care.
Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
