The Alliance Announces New Board of Directors and Executive Committee for 2023

The Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance (The Alliance) is pleased to announce the 2023 Board of Directors and new Executive Committee. The new Executive Committee includes:

To serve the vision of The Alliance, the Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from diverse donation and transplant programs, as well as other important healthcare organizations, including the American Hospital Association (AHA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American Society of Transplantation (AST), American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), The Joint Commission (TJC), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

New members on the board of directors include Leonard Achan, President and CEO of LiveOnNY, and Thomas Struckl, Project Director at The Joint Commission. Leonard Achan was appointed President & CEO of LiveOnNY in November 2021. Having started his career as an ICU Nurse in 1999 at Mount Sinai Hospital, he is a veteran healthcare executive with over 20 years of leadership experience. He previously served as the President of the Hospital for Special Surgery’s Innovation Institute. His leadership roles have spanned clinical, operational, marketing, communications, crisis management, digital transformation, branding, and innovation and he has served in several C-suite roles.

Thomas Strukl is currently the Project Director in the Department of Standards and Survey Methods at The Joint Commission. In this role, he serves as a subject matter expert for the development of laboratory accreditation standards, including the standards related to tissue safety and transplantation safety in the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Laboratory.

“Strong leadership will be critical as the community traverses changes in the next few years and I am pleased that our board has important depth of experience and diversity to guide The Alliance strategy,” said Karri Hobson-Pape, Executive Director of The Alliance. “Each director brings important insights and relationships to extend our reach and value to the field at large.”

These board members bring leadership and guidance to advance the field, ultimately saving and healing more lives on the national transplant waitlist. The board will steer the strategic planning process and resource decisions, which will guide other initiatives throughout the coming years.
