The Alliance is proud to announce the launch of its new First-Person Authorization (FPA) Resource Page, a comprehensive initiative developed to examine and elevate current FPA practices in both Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) and Brain Death cases across the nation.
Emerging from the collaborative efforts of The Alliance’s National Donation Leadership Council, this initiative reflects a shared commitment to promoting consistency, transparency, and ethical integrity across the donation and transplantation community. The FPA Resource Page serves as a dynamic hub where frontline teams, clinical leaders, and administrators can find practical tools, policy frameworks, and effective strategies to support and strengthen FPA efforts within their own organizations.
“As a community, we recognize the importance of honoring donor intent with the highest degree of integrity and respect,” said Deanna Fenton, Senior Manager of Educational Program Development & Operations at The Alliance. “The FPA Resource Page reflects the shared values of our community and provides a foundation for continued learning and collaboration as we strive to uphold public trust and ethical excellence, providing a living framework to guide best practices as we continue to evolve as a community.”
As part of this effort, The Alliance’s National Donation Leadership Council has introduced a Community Consensus Statement that articulates the professional community’s collective position on First-Person Authorization. The statement underscores why it is essential to exhaust every effort to honor donor intent and reinforce the community’s shared commitment to honor every donation decision, with respect, cultural integrity, and transparency throughout the donation process.
“This initiative represents the power of collaboration and shared purpose,” says Rondi Gelbard, MD, Chair of The Alliance’s National Donation Leadership Council. “By bringing together perspectives from across the donation and transplantation community, we’re creating a unified foundation for consistent, values-driven practice in honoring donor intent.”
The FPA Resource Page is designed to evolve over time, guided by community input, real-world challenges, and emerging best practices. Users are encouraged to explore the page and share feedback, questions, or suggestions through the built-in form to help ensure the resource remains responsive to the ongoing needs of the field.
