December 19, 2025 – The OPTN invites you to provide your feedback on the policy development process during a special public comment period.
HRSA and the OPTN have released two critical proposals for public comment aimed at improving patient safety and transparency.
- The first addresses donation after circulatory death (DCD), aimed at improving safeguards for potential DCD patients and enhancing information sharing with patient families regarding DCD organ procurement.
- The second focuses on rabies screening and data collection, strengthening safeguards to prevent donor-derived infections through enhanced reporting and monitoring.
Stakeholders across the transplant community are encouraged to review and provide feedback during the public comment period. All perspectives are welcome, including those from patients, donor families, caregivers, organ donation and transplant professionals, and more. We encourage you to share this email with your networks.
Public comment is now open through January 18, 2026. All comments are reviewed by the sponsoring committee before finalizing proposals and also considered by the OPTN Board of Directors before voting on the proposal.
