This content was curated based on presentations from the National Collaboration Forum in March 2025, hosted by The Alliance in partnership with The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), The American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), The American Society of Transplantation (AST), the Gift of Life Institute, and the North American Transplant Coordinators Organization (NATCO).

July 16, 2026 – “I learned that static cold storage slows organ deterioration by cooling, whereas machine perfusion actively circulates oxygenated preservation fluid through the organ, improving preservation, enabling functional assessment, and expanding the pool of transplantable organs.”

October 9, 2025 – I found the range of topics to be thoughtfully curated and seamlessly integrated. The progression from foundational landscape and scientific principles to practical applications, regulatory considerations, financial modeling, and future directions provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and trajectory of machine perfusion. The breakout sessions organized by organ type—kidney, liver, heart, and lung—were particularly impactful, offering an in-depth exploration of the technical and logistical complexities unique to each system. I also appreciated the inclusion of sessions focused on cost and financial modeling, which are often overlooked but essential for successful program implementation.
