DCD in Action

Webinar Series

This two-part webinar series, hosted in partnership with The Alliance, UCSD Reimagine Center, and DTI outlines essential steps in launching and optimizing a successful DCD-NRP program, including logistics, staffing, and overcoming institutional barriers.

DCD in Action In-Person Workshop

This multi-day course at the UC San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery immerses participants in both theoretical foundations and hands-on DCD and surgical NRP simulations with real-time instruction from pioneers in the field. Learn essential steps in launching and optimizing a successful DCD-NRP program, including logistics, staffing and overcoming institutional barriers. Experience live simulations, case-based discussions, and an intensive animal lab focused on organ assessment, NRP protocols and multi-organ recovery strategies.

Important Note: Participants may choose to register for the full DCD in Action Workshop, which includes access to both live webinars. Space for the full workshop is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you register for the full workshop, you do not need to register separately for the webinars. If you prefer to attend only the webinars, you may register for the webinar series above.

Course Dates: March 9-10, 2026
Where: The Center for The Future of Surgery at UC San Diego (9515 Gilman Dr, La Jolla, CA 92093)

DCD Across Borders: International Perspectives and Lessons Learned

As NRP continues to evolve worldwide, countries are implementing DCD programs through different clinical, regulatory, and operational pathways. Part I of the DCD in Action series brings together international leaders to share how NRP programs have been developed, implemented, and refined across diverse healthcare systems. Through a moderated discussion, leaders from various European countries will discuss key lessons learned during implementation and innovative or distinctive elements that have strengthened their approaches. Emphasis will be placed on practical insights and transferable best practices that can inform emerging and evolving NRP programs globally.

The U.S. Landscape: Evolving Practices in DCD

As DCD continues to evolve globally, transplant programs are rapidly moving from concept to execution, raising new clinical, technical, and operational questions. Building on insights from the international experience, Part II of the DCD in Action series turns the focus inward to examine how NRP is being implemented, adapted, and refined within the United States. This US Roundtable discussion brings together clinical and operational experts to move beyond “how it started” and into what matters most now: standardization, decision-making, and technical performance. Join us as we unpack common challenges, highlight best practices, and share practical lessons that can be applied across transplant and OPO teams.
