Regional Councillor

Each Region elects a Regional Councillor to represent regional views and opinions to the Board of Directors. Each region determines the guidelines for the election procedures. Councillors and Associate Councillors serve one to two years and cannot succeed themselves in office. Once elected as a Regional Councillor, that person’s name is added to the ballot for election to the Board of Directors. Since all members of the Board of Directors must be elected by a vote of a quorum of the entire membership, Regional Councillors are included on the ballot and elected to the board in the same manner as the other candidates. The Regional Councillor provides leadership to the Region, facilitating information sharing, mediating differences, conducting regional meetings at least twice yearly, nominating regional representatives to OPTN committees, upholding policies and by-laws and communicating information affecting transplant practices and policies to the regional membership.
