What makes your career in organ donation and transplantation special? My career in organ donation is special because it is rooted in people. It centers on families who are grieving, patients who are waiting, and dedicated professionals who show up every day to carry out a mission that truly matters. It is work that demands technical precision and urgency while also requiring deep compassion. I feel incredibly privileged to play a role in a field where our decisions can honor an extraordinary gift, support families through unimaginable loss, and give others another chance at life.
What continues to draw me to this work is knowing that leadership in organ donation is real and immediate. Lives depend on how well we prepare, communicate, and support one another. I have seen how strong leadership turns uncertainty into clarity and stress into confidence, allowing teams to move through complex situations with purpose and care. That responsibility is humbling and deeply meaningful.
At the heart of my career is a passion for developing people. Organ donation succeeds or fails on the strength of its teams, and my greatest fulfillment comes from helping others grow into confident, capable professionals who feel supported and valued. As my career evolved from hands-on surgical work into education and leadership, I recognized that my greatest impact lies in building trust, coaching through difficult moments, and creating environments where people can do their best work even in emotionally heavy situations.
I am energized by working alongside mission-driven colleagues and by using data, research, and innovation to strengthen preservation practices. Small improvements in process and education can dramatically improve outcomes, ensuring more gifts are honored and more lives are touched. Building strong systems through structured onboarding, coaching, and education empowers individuals and elevates the work we do.
Ultimately, what grounds me every day is the donor family. Behind every recovery is a family choosing generosity in the midst of their grief. Honoring each gift is about stewardship and being worthy of the trust families place in us. Through developing people, strengthening systems, and advancing education and preservation, I am honored to help transform loss into legacy and to serve this mission with deep gratitude.
Amanda Beck, CTP, CSA, CSFA, is the Recovery Services Supervisor at Versiti Organ and Tissue Donation, where her work spans education, operations, workforce development, and organ preservation. Drawing on more than a decade of surgical experience, she entered the OPO field in 2022 and quickly established herself as a trusted clinical, educational, and strategic leader with growing local and national impact.
Known for pairing people-centered leadership with deep operative expertise, Amanda has led the redesign of Versiti’s organ recovery onboarding and education programs, launched an in-house research recovery workshop, and co-created an Individual Development Plan coaching initiative to support professional growth and retention. At the national level, she maintains an active presence through podium and poster presentations at AOPO, NATCO, and The Alliance National Forums, with a focus on kidney preservation, allocation best practices, and workforce development. She leads a strategic organizational partnership with Organ Recovery Systems to advance kidney preservation practices nationwide, and in 2024 was named to Versiti’s CEO Circle.
She was nominated for The Alliance 40 Under 40 by Kayla Andalina, Director of Marketing at Organ Recovery Systems. “Amanda is a rising leader in organ donation whose work has directly increased organ utilization and saved countless lives,” Andalina wrote, describing Amanda as an exceptional partner who builds trust through empathy, transparency, and shared purpose while continually pushing for innovation and data-driven decision-making.
