What makes your career in organ donation and transplantation special?

Over time, what has made this career meaningful to me is the opportunity to see the field from multiple perspectives and across the full continuum of care. I work in organ donation and transplantation, a field that exists entirely at the intersection of human loss and human hope, and there is no other space in healthcare quite like it. I’ve been fortunate to experience both sides of the work, from supporting transplant programs and patients awaiting organs to engaging with the donation process and the families who make it possible. That has allowed me to witness moments that stay with you, whether it’s seeing a recipient return to clinic healthier after transplant or hearing a donor’s story shared directly by their family.
Those experiences have shaped how I think about the system as a whole. They’ve given me a deeper appreciation for how closely connected these journeys are, and for the responsibility we have to continually improve the processes that support them. This system was built on the courage of donors and the resilience of recipients, and every improvement we make, however incremental, honors both.

Biography

Andrew Jimenez, MHA, is an experienced healthcare leader with nearly a decade of progressive experience across the full continuum of organ transplantation and donation. He currently serves as Director of Quality Improvement for DCI Donor Services and as Co-Chair of the Alliance Transplant & Donation Quality Steering Committee’s Event Planning Subcommittee.

Andrew has held roles across patient services, financial operations, clinical management, and quality and regulatory leadership, giving him a broad, end-to-end perspective on the systems, challenges, and opportunities that shape the field. His quality and regulatory expertise includes developing QAPI frameworks, leading successful Joint Commission, CMS, and UNOS surveys, and driving high-impact operational initiatives at both the organizational and national levels.

He was nominated for The Alliance 40 Under 40 by Celeste Braly, Director of Quality and Patient Safety at UW Health, with an additional nomination from Ashley Cardenas of Renown Health. “Andrew brings organization, strategic thinking, and a collaborative approach that helps translate quality principles into meaningful, actionable outcomes across the field,” Braly wrote, describing him as a highly engaged and emerging leader with a sustained commitment to quality and collaboration.
