What makes your career in organ donation and transplantation special? What makes a career in organ donation and transplantation so special is the collective commitment of a whole community‚ patients, families, clinicians, coordinators, policymakers, and advocates‚ working together toward a single, life-affirming goal. Over the years, I've been fortunate to contribute to this mission at every level: from supporting donor families at the bedside, to shaping national policy, to building a new program from the ground up. At each stage, I've seen how powerful our impact can be when we work in true partnership. This field is built on trust, compassion, and shared purpose‚ and being part of that, every day, is what makes it so meaningful.

Biography

Ashley Cardenas, MAS, is the Transplant Administrator at Renown Transplant Institute, where she brings more than 15 years of leadership experience to one of the fastest-growing programs in the region. Widely recognized for her expertise in healthcare operations, strategic planning, and system redesign, Cardenas has made a significant mark on the transplant field through her commitment to excellence and innovation.

She was nominated for The Alliance 40 Under 40 by Amanda Cole, Director of Education and Research at Indiana Donor Network. Cole wrote, “Ashley Cardenas is a nationally recognized healthcare leader. She inspires those around her, drives progress through innovation, and always leads with compassion. Her voice is shaping the future of transplant administration.”

Throughout her career, Cardenas has earned national recognition for her ability to build high-performing teams and lead large-scale quality and operations initiatives. At Renown, she is credited with redesigning workflows that improve patient access, enhance clinical coordination, and align program goals with national performance benchmarks. She consistently brings together multidisciplinary teams to solve challenges creatively and efficiently.
