Brief Bio

Carson Phillips is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and started her career as a nurse at UAB Hospital in 2009. She received her BSN and MSN from UAB School of Nursing (2009/2012). Carson has held a variety of clinical and leadership roles throughout her career in healthcare, with the majority of her career in the field of organ transplantation. She currently serves as the Senior Director of Transplant Clinical Operations at UAB’s Comprehensive Transplant Institute, one of the busiest transplant centers in the country.

Making the Impossible Possible: The Road to The First-In-Human Kidney Xenotransplant Clinical Trial

Xenotransplantation aims to increase availability through the novel approach of transplanting, implanting, or infusing live cells, tissues, organs from a nonhuman animal source, however, there are many clinical and ethical consdirations that must be examined as we look towards to the future. Over the course of this discussion, we will focus on the process of Xenotransplantatoin from bench to bedside. We’ll be joined by Dr. Dr. Jayme Locke, UAB Medicine’s Comprehensive Transplant Institute Director and an integral team member in developing and implementing the Parsons’ Model, to learn more about the journey to xenotransplantation.
