I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. As an adolescent I worked as a Camp Counselor at a camp for children with Diabetes and as a result determined a career as a physician. While in Medical School at Duke University, I gravitated towards the career in Pediatrics and during residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s determined to treat the acutely ill child. I practiced Pediatric Critical Care Physician for 36 years retiring earlier this year. I have been actively involved in Organ Donation for 30 years as Medical Director/ Associate Medical Director or Consultant Medical Director for multiple OPOs since that time. My current position is as Chief Medical Officer of Donor Alliance – the OPO service Colorado and most of Montana. My current research focus is in the area of organ donor and organ donation, focusing on increasing donation, including the medical management of the neurologically deceased organ donor to increase the numbers and improve the quality of organs being transplanted. I bring a history of involvement in numerous local, regional and national committees and organizations in this area and have successfully conducted research and published in this area.
