I am an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Duke University, specializing in pediatric cardiac surgery. I have been at Duke for the past six years in training and completing the inaugural congenital surgery fellowship. My clinical activities include pediatric heart surgery, adult congenital heart surgery, robotic congenital cardiac surgery, pediatric heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. My heart center titles include co-director of the Single Ventricle program, and director of the Minimally Invasive Congenital Cardiac Surgery program. I have a strong interest in education, and serve as assistant program director for the cardiothoracic surgery fellowship program at Duke.
My research interests focus on cardiac surgery investigations. I work closely with my section chief, Joseph Turek, to progress innovations within the field of congenital heart surgery. We have successfully performed twenty of the first partial heart transplantations over the past three years, and two thymus-heart combined transplantations. Most of my research interests focus on expanding the utility of partial heart transplant, and determining the best way to use this life saving therapy.
