Geoffrey Funk, MD, FACS completed his undergraduate education at Texas A&M University with degrees in biochemistry and genetics. He went on to complete medical school at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center in 2004. He underwent residency training in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center from 2004-2009 and a fellowship in Trauma & Surgical Critical Care at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 2009-2010. He is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgery.
After more than a decade as an acute care and trauma surgeon at a level 1 trauma center, Dr. Funk joined Southwest Transplant Alliance as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director, a role focused on optimizing donor management and maximizing the number of life-saving gifts from each organ donor. Prior to joining STA, Dr. Funk also served as Executive Clerkship Director for Surgery at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He holds the rank of Clinical Affiliate Professor at that institution, as well as the rank of Associate Professor at the TCU Burnett School of Medicine.
Dr. Funk is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, holds memberships in Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Association of Surgical Education, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the Texas Surgical Society.
