Breaking Down Barriers: Navigating Evolving Policies in Evaluating Transplant Candidacy
Given evolving policies related to substance use, vaccination requirements, and other eligibility considerations that can directly affect patients’ access to transplantation, transplant centers are facing challenging questions around consistency, equity, and ethical decision-making across different patient populations. This session will bring together clinical and ethical perspectives to examine how these issues are being navigated in practice. Our panel will explore the unique considerations involved in pediatric transplant decision-making, as well as the ethical complexities surrounding marijuana use and transplant candidacy, providing an opportunity for discussion about potential disparities and their impact on access to transplantation.
