Leadership. Dr. Julie Heimbach is a professor of surgery and the Director of the William Von Liebig Center for Transplantation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN.  In her role, she leads a comprehensive range of programs including all solid organ transplantation, bone marrow transplant and the reconstructive transplant surgery program.

Dr. Heimbach’s leadership extends to numerous national roles, including her past service on the OPTN Board and as the chair of the OPTN Liver Committee. She has also served on the governing board of the AASLD, and currently serves as the Treasurer of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hepatology.

Clinical. Dr. Heimbach’s distinguished career focuses on abdominal transplant surgery, living donor transplantation, liver transplant for malignancies, and issues of obesity and transplantation.

Research. Dr. Heimbach is focused on outcomes-based research for complex patients including examining long-term outcomes in transplantation for liver cancers, living donor transplant, and issues of obesity and transplantation.

Education. Dr. Heimbach has provided educational presentations worldwide on topics of transplantation, and provides mentorship transplant surgery fellows and residents.  She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact scientific journals, contributing significantly to the body of knowledge in transplant medicine and surgery.
