Dr Katheryn Gambetta is an attending pedaitric heart failure & heart transplant cardiologist at Ann and Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital . She is involved in the pretransplant, peritransplant, and post transplant care of children who have undergone heart transpalnt. She also cares for children with cardiomyopathies, as well as children with cardiaconcologic problems and neuromuscular disorders. She is engaged in heart transplant exercise and adherence research. She collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to provide the best care for children so that children will have happy and healthy lives.
The Lifelong Challenge of Adherence in Pediatric Transplantation

During this session we will explore the challenges of transitioning pediatric patients—especially those with developmental delays or adherence issues—to adult care. A major component of the program will examine the challenges of nonadherence in pediatric transplantation, discussing the impact that nonadherence has on patient outcomes and the overall success of the transplant process. Strategies to promote lifelong adherence and support patients’ psychological well-being throughout the transition process will also be discussed, with a focus on effective education and mental health support for both patients and families.
