Laura Buehner

RN
Job Title: Director of Family Services
Organization: Life Connection of Ohio

I spent ten years working in a hospital setting as a nurse and nursing leader, primarily caring for patients in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Four years ago, I transitioned to the field of organ donation, joining Life Connection in Family Services. In this role, I have the privilege of supporting patients, families, and healthcare teams during some of life’s most difficult and meaningful moments.

My hope is that the work I do serves as a bridge to hope and healing. The patients, families, and healthcare colleagues I encounter each day continually inspire me to give my very best and to approach this work with compassion, dedication, and gratitude.

From Formal Request to Authorization: Choosing the Right Conversation at the Right Time

Tuesday, May 05, 2026, at 2:00pm

Family authorization for organ donation often hinges not just on what is said, but which conversation is happening and when. This webinar will explore how donation professionals can optimize donation conversations by identifying the right conversation to have in high-stakes, emotionally complex situations. Through a focused, three-part discussion, presenters will highlight key skills for effective family engagement while addressing behavioral dynamics and medical mistrust. Participants will gain practical strategies to build trust, navigate sensitive conversations, and support informed, compassionate decision-making that leads to stronger authorization outcomes.
