Brief Bio

Laura Gayton, MHA, BSN, CNOR, CSSM, has been a perioperative nurse for over 30 years, including positions of staff nurse, educator, manager, and director. She is currently the Associate Director of Standards Interpretation at The Joint Commission in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Laura previously held the position of Director of Perioperative Services at Amita Health-Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and most recently served as a manager of multiple surgical service lines at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Laura was an item writer and cut score committee member for the CSSM exam for CCI, and has served as secretary, president-elect and past president of eChapter, the chair of the Leadership Specialty Assembly. She is active in her local AORN chapter and has been instrumental in ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) and other SSI reduction projects and programs. Laura was elected to the AORN Nominating Committee in April 2019 for tenure of 2019-2021. She also serves on the Alumni Board of Directors for the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago.
