Dr. Meredyth Evans is a pediatric psychologist in The Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Evans has experience providing clinical care to children, teens, and young adults with a variety of chronic medical conditions within the Lurie Children’s outpatient clinic and inpatient medical floors. Currently she is an embedded member on the heart transplant service at Lurie Children’s, conducting psychological transplant evaluations and providing clinical care to patients and their families throughout the transplant journey. She also has experience working with other solid organ transplant populations at Lurie, including patients and families undergoing kidney and liver transplant evaluations. Dr. Evans completed her psychology fellowship in behavioral medicine at Lurie Children’s hospital, specifically conducting research and providing clinical care to children and teens with type 1 diabetes. Dr. Evans continues to have a special interest in the pediatric psychology field, conducting research looking at the psychological and social factors that influence and promote coping and adjustment in children living with chronic illness.
The Lifelong Challenge of Adherence in Pediatric Transplantation

During this session we will explore the challenges of transitioning pediatric patients—especially those with developmental delays or adherence issues—to adult care. A major component of the program will examine the challenges of nonadherence in pediatric transplantation, discussing the impact that nonadherence has on patient outcomes and the overall success of the transplant process. Strategies to promote lifelong adherence and support patients’ psychological well-being throughout the transition process will also be discussed, with a focus on effective education and mental health support for both patients and families.
