Brief Bio

Mita Shah, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist who specializes in the care and management of kidney transplant patients with a special interest in the management of immunosuppression to improve long-term graft survival.

As a professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Shah instructs medical students, residents and fellows in the practice of transplant nephrology at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also serves as medical director of the Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Program. She has received excellence in teaching awards for her contributions to medical student education.

Dr. Shah is involved in clinical research trials involving immunosuppression in kidney transplant patients and has presented her research at national meetings. Her previous research studied kidney development and tissue engineering. She has published this work in leading journals such as Development and Developmental Biology.

Dr. Shah completed a fellowship in nephrology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in internal medicine at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland. She earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and is board certified in nephrology.
