NRP-DCD Heart Transplantation: An Innovative Approach to Expanding Donor Access
Some transplant centers are working from the ground up and are unsure of how to best implement a successful DCD-NRP program. Bearing this in mind, we will be joined by Dr. Brian Lima from the Medical City Heart Hospital in Dallas who will review the fundamentals of Donation after Brain Death (DBD) vs. Donation After Circulatory Determination of Death (DCDD). He will provide a comprehensive overview of the surgical and logistical basics of the NRP-DCD approach and will highlight the potential benefits from the transplant perspective. Ultimately, during this discussion, we will explore effective strategies for the implementation process, while evaluating the successes, challenges, and potential opportunities for improvement as it relates to DCD-NRP for donor heart transplantation.
