In 2025, I am answering the call to... push boundaries and inspire improvements in systems and leadership.
Job Title: Director of Tissue Services
Organization: Gift of Life Michigan
Age: 38
Years in Donation and Transplantation: 12
What makes your career in organ donation and transplantation special? My most meaningful achievements have come from challenging the status quo and driving innovative, data-informed change. I led a strategic shift in staff performance metrics—from authorization rates to total approaches—which increased engagement and performance, and has since been adopted by other organizations with great success. I also spearheaded the launch of a non-hospital death referral system, including the long-elusive onboarding of the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. This effort helped elevate Gift of Life Michigan to a national leader in non-hospital tissue donor volume. I scaled the Birth Tissue Program by 1,764% despite the challenges of the pandemic. Perhaps most transformative, I unified previously siloed teams into a cohesive Tissue Division, fostering collaboration through cultural change, a shared identity, and tools like the Predictive Index. The result has been sustained performance gains and a resilient, values-driven team culture built to last.
