Brief Bio

Ryan has always had a passion to help others and strives to make a difference in this world. He is currently considered a clinical expert in management of organ donation and recovery, with 13 years of experience in the field.

Ryan’s career began as an Emergency Medical Technician/Firefighter in southern Arizona over twenty years ago. He then moved into a position as a Patient Care Technician at a local hospital. He continued to work there as he sought his nursing degree, which he obtained in 2005. As an RN, he began working in the Intensive Care Unit, specializing in cardiac, neurology and trauma. He grew in countless ways at University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. In 2008, Ryan focused his passion and began his career as an Organ Recovery Coordinator for Donor Network of Arizona. He is constantly chasing knowledge and seeking to improve himself and the donation process, to honor the patients, their families, and the prominence of donation.

Mindful Ventilation: Awareness of the Delivered Breath

This course will provide education on the challenges of deceased donor lung recruitment. During the discussion, we will review common problems OPO coordinators face when managing a prospective lung donor and discuss methods employed to overcome those challenges. We will also hear from a critical care pulmonologist who will discuss the efficacy of different pulmonary recruitment techniques and ventilation modes.
