What makes your career in organ donation and transplantation special?

My career in organ donation and transplantation is defined by the rare intersection of critical care experience, systems-level innovation, and deeply human impact. As a Lung Transplant Coordinator at the University of Utah Hospital, I play a vital role in guiding patients, honoring donors, and helping families navigate some of the most meaningful decisions they will ever face. I have shown commitment to expanding access to transplant by removing barriers to referral and strengthening relationships with referring providers, because I recognize that timely access to evaluation often begins long before a patient reaches a transplant center.
What makes my work especially impactful is my ability to move beyond individual patient care to drive broader change across the field. I am an active participant in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Lung Transplant Growth Collaborative, partnering with colleagues to improve pre-transplant efficiency and grow our program’s capacity to serve patients.
Bridging the gap between life-saving organ donation and successful transplantation through collaborative, patient-centered care is what makes this work both challenging and deeply rewarding.

Biography

Scotti Miller, RN, BSN, CCRN, CCTC, is a dedicated Lung Transplant Nurse Coordinator at the University of Utah Hospital, known for advancing patient care, operational growth, and innovation in transplant medicine. With 16 years of comprehensive nursing experience, including five specialized years in organ donation, she is a dual-certified professional holding both Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) and Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) credentials.

Scotti has been repeatedly selected to represent her program in national collaborations, work that has helped grow team expertise and overall transplant volume. She served as the clinical lead for the University of Utah Health lung transplant team’s IHI Lung Transplant Growth Collaborative, which resulted in a record volume of 50 lung transplants at the hospital in 2025. A clinical champion from the outset, she consistently engaged providers and staff and drove improvements in pre-transplant efficiency that contributed to significant growth in 2025 across referrals, waitlist additions, and lung transplant volume—work for which she was recognized personally by her hospital system’s chief financial officer.

Scotti is committed to bridging the gap between life-saving organ donation and successful transplantation through collaborative, patient-centered care, removing barriers to referral and strengthening relationships with referring providers so that patients can access evaluation as early as possible.
