Sherry started her nursing career in Emergency Medicine at a Level 1 Trauma Center in 1996. Besides working in both rural and urban emergency departments, she also served in the House Supervision roles over both hospitals. After 15 years of emergency medicine work, she became a flight nurse for PHI Air Medical and later entered leadership in critical care transport with Indiana University Health LifeLine over the Indianapolis critical care base. She served additionally as the marketing liaison and interim communications supervisor and implemented intra-aortic balloon, high risk OB and ECMO transport. In 2016, Sherry came to Indiana Donor Network as the Director of Clinical services leading the organ, tissue, transportation and supply chain teams. Currently, Sherry serves as the Director of Organ Services and has been successful in bringing a team of 14 organ recovery coordinators in 2016 to a team of 103 comprised of advanced clinical coordinators, organ recovery coordinators, organ import and logistics coordinators and surgical recovery specialists and their leadership teams. This team has brought the organization to continued record breaking organ donors and transplants. The meaning of this work is our mission of which Sherry is both professionally and personally tied to organ and tissue donation.

Rapid or expedited organ donation cases present unique clinical and operational challenges that require early identification potential expedited cases, coordinated internal processes, and effective external collaboration with donor hospitals and transplant centers, all while maintaining safety, ethical integrity, and quality standards. This session will provide organ donation and transplantation professionals with insight into highly functional processes used by other organ procurement organizations to safely maximize the gift of donation under the pressure of time or stability constraints
