Our work is driven by the belief that transplant teams deserve the best support possible so they can focus on what matters most. Every now and then, our mission touches us on a personal level. Some of our team members have witnessed the life-changing impact of transplants firsthand, reminding us why this work matters so deeply.
Tanya’s Story
I joined Buckeye seeking fulfillment in improving the lives of others. This work took on new meaning when my aunt, who faced end-stage emphysema, received her lung transplant. Seeing her journey from struggling to breathe to dancing again with her wife, moved me beyond words. It was a deeply meaningful experience to witness the transplant process from the family side and recognize how vital our work is for patients and families everywhere.
Chris’s Story
Having spent the past 13 years working in organ donation and transplant, my connection to this work has deepened through its profound impact on my own life. My uncle became a donor, and years later, my cousin received a transplant performed by one of our program partners. I was on call during my uncle’s donation, and it was truly an experience that gave me a new appreciation for the real lives behind every case we handle. My family and I are thankful for all organ donor heroes and their families, as well as those who help turn those gifts into life-saving transplants.
Nick’s Story
When my cousin underwent a life-saving liver transplant at Georgetown University, this work took on a deeper, more personal meaning for me. I also experienced the profound impact of donation when a close family friend became a donor after a tragic car accident. These moments deepened my appreciation for the work we do and reminded me that every transplant we help make possible represents someone’s second chance to live fully and give back.
We strive to create real human impact through our work here together. Every story is a reminder that behind every match, call, and flight, there are lives forever changed. At Buckeye, we carry these stories with us as a reminder of why this work matters.
