Distress in Organ Transplantation: Impacts on Patients, Families, and Medical Teams

Transplant patients and their families may experience significant distress throughout the transplant process. Similarly, transplant staff who are directly involved in transplant patient care can also experience distress or burnout. During this webinar, we will discuss what these stressors may look like, review the psychosocial issues experienced in each phase of transplant, and how to recognize and support patients and their caregivers.
- Explain common/universal stressors experienced throughout the transplant process.
- Describe unique short-term and long-term stressors specific to transplant patients and their families.
- List treatment approaches for managing distress (e.g., psychotherapy, psychogenic medication, support groups).
- Discuss distress among transplant staff and identify symptoms of burnout.
