The Alliance Advancement Series
C-ing the Future: Medical, Ethical, and Financial Considerations of Hepatitis C Transplants

Presented on: Thursday, November 21, 2019

Recent studies have highlighted the success of HCV-positive to HCV-negative transplants thus proving the effectiveness of anti-HCV therapy in the post-transplant setting. This course will provide an overview of the history of HCV+ to HCV- transplants, the current landscape and knowledge, and the considerations of operationalizing this into routine care. Join us to hear from Dr. David Goldberg and Dr. Peter Reese, co-leaders in the THINKER, USHER, and SHELTER trials which were pilot studies focused on transplanting organs from HCV-infected donors into HCV-negative recipients.

At the end of the webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the published data on transplanting organs from HCV-viremic donors into HCV-negative patients.
  • Discuss the ethical and financial barrier to broad implementation of transplanting organs from HCV-viremic donors into HCV-negative patients.

Members of the donation and transplantation community serving diverse populations to include administrators, coordinators, physicians, nurses, surgeons, managers, quality improvement specialists, social workers, and other donation and transplantation center professionals and their colleagues.
