The Alliance Advancement Series
Authorization Strategies Part III: Family Support & Aftercare

Presented on: Tuesday, May 10, 2022

A critical component of increased authorization rates is effective, ongoing family communication and support. In Part III of our authorization series, we will welcome our colleagues from the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency who will introduce two models, the Traumatic Loss Support Program (TSLP) and Trauma Informed Care (TIC), which were implemented to support families during the acute phases of the donation process as well as during their aftercare program.

  1. Describe how the Traumatic Loss Support Program (TSLP) has enabled staff involved with potential donor families to have increased comfort with discussions surrounding traumatic events.
  2. Identify how to use Trauma Informed Care to better support families during the approach process as well as in aftercare.
  3. List elements of LOPA’s family support program that have improved staff awareness around suicide and trauma.
  4. Summarize feedback received from families engaged in the Traumatic Loss Support Program (TSLP) and describe the overall impact within the community.
