Brief Bio

Amy Bonser began her career over 20 years ago as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric ICU. After her best friend received the gift of a life-saving double lung transplant in 2003, she refocused her career to work in organ procurement. She has held both clinical and leadership roles in the OPO industry and is professionally and personally committed to saving lives through organ and tissue donation.

Amy joined DCI Donor Services in February 2020 to develop and oversee the Business Intelligence, Performance Improvement and Death Record Review departments. These teams are utilizing data to drive decision making and process improvement initiatives throughout Tennessee Donor Services, Sierra Donor Services and New Mexico Donor Services.

Navigating DCD Cases: Recognizing Missed Opportunities

Thursday, September 07, 2023, at 2:00pm

While we are incredibly proud of our millionth transplant milestone, we also acknowledge the devastating loss of 17 people every day who die waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Paired with the ongoing scrutiny of OPO performance, it is more important than ever to ensure we are maximizing every donation opportunity, including DCD. How do we use data to recognize underdeveloped areas of growth for both DBD and DCD donors, then subsequently take action to address and maximize them? How do we grow our DCD rate to the NASEM-recommended 45%, without affecting our DBD rates? How do we create positive cultures of change in our organizations?

Join us as we explore ways to unite Clinical, Business Intelligence, and Performance Improvement resources to expose issues and opportunities, before, during, and after referral and case processes. Learn from representatives of top-performing OPOs how they have analyzed data to inspire change and progress within their organizations, eliminated barriers, and built resilience to overcome setbacks and reach their lofty goals!
