Marty Sellers, MD MPH, became Medical Director at the Gift of Life Donor Program organ procurement organization (OPO) in Philadelphia, PA in September 2024. Previously, he was an abdominal transplant surgeon and was always actively involved in organ recoveries and OPO-related efforts. A career-long focus has been to maximize the organ donation potential in his Donation Service Area, which included talks and presentations at donor hospitals and local news outlets. This focus was further utilized upon becoming associate medical director of LifeLink of Georgia in 2014, where he also served on the LifeLink Foundation Board of Governors and Research Strategy and Research Guidance Committees until 2024. He is actively involved in donor management and donation-related research. He has led efforts to increase number of donors and organs transplanted, as well as efforts to improve appropriateness of OPO system-wide metrics. He is highly experienced in normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) and has promoted its responsible expansion among the OPO and transplant communities. These collective efforts have led to multiple publications and presentations at national and international meetings. He served as the Medical Advisor for the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) in 2022-2023 and served on the UNOS OPO Committee from 2017-2020. He is currently a member of the Donation Transplantation Advisory Committee (DTAC) for the OPTN.
