Brief Bio

Robert’s connection to organ donation and transplantation is that he is a heart transplant recipient having received his new heart in November 2013 at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Since then, his volunteerism efforts have included being a recent past Board member, Treasurer, and Chair of the Finance Committees for both the Organ Procurement & Transplant Network (OPTN) and United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). He is also a board member of the Philadelphia Chapter of Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO). Lastly, he is a current board member of the Central/Southern NJ Region of the American Heart Association and was Board Chair for two years.

During his career, he has been a hospital administrator, including as CEO where he led the hospital’s turnaround; worked in the investment banking field in a turnaround capacity; was a finance executive at an equipment leasing company financing outpatient start-ups, physician practices, hospitals and other healthcare businesses; and has been a healthcare strategic business consultant and advisor where he has written business plans, conducted turnarounds, performed due diligence services for investors and lenders, fostered the sale of several outpatient centers, and obtained debt financing and restructured debt for more than 20 years, during which time he also had ownership and operating interests, as well as board seats, in several healthcare companies. Currently, he is a part-time Vice President for Healthcare at Midcap Advisors, LLC, a boutique middle markets investment banking firm based in New York City where he spearheads working with physician practices and outpatient centers exploring exit strategies, merger and acquisition opportunities, and capital raises for growth.

Robert is married for more than 40 years, has one adult daughter and holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and an MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Wagner College in New York. He has been an athlete most of his life, including since transplant and has completed three half-marathons, six 10-mile races, skied every winter starting with the second season after transplant and has competed in person at one Transplant Games of America event, at another virtually and plans to be in Birmingham, AL this summer as well.
