Brief Bio

Dr. Popov is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at New York University Grossman (NYU) School of Medicine and is the Director of Bariatric Endoscopy at the Manhattan VA Medical Center. Dr. Popov established the first active Bariatric Endoscopy Program at a Veterans hospital in the U.S and is an active member of the National VA Endoscopy Subcommittee. She was also a co-founder of the Yale Weight Loss Center. At the NYU hospitals, Dr. Popov has pioneered endoscopic treatment options for weight regain after gastric bypass, endoscopic treatment of other bariatric complications such as fistulas and ulcers, and primary endoscopic weight loss methods. In her practice at the Manhattan VA, she has built a comprehensive multidisciplinary program for patients with obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) utilizing various methods to treat obesity: behavioral and lifestyle therapies combined with intragastric balloons, endoscopic gastroplasty, Aspire Assist. Dr. Popov completed a fellowship in digestive diseases at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2012, and a PhD in investigative medicine at the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2014; she also is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine .At NYU, Dr. Popov leads a Bariatric Endoscopy Research group consisting of NYU fellows, residents, and medical students, with several active research protocols and grants. She is the recipient of the 2019 Florence Lefcourt Endoscopic Research Award for a randomized trial investigating bariatric endoscopic methods to treat NAFLD.
