Leveraging Innovation and Patient Engagement in Pediatric Transplantation

Presented on: Tuesday, April 27, 2021

During this webinar, we will highlight three critical areas of Pediatric Liver Transplantation that also have an impact on all organ systems. First, we will discuss a minimally invasive approach to liver donation, the associated benefits, and the relevant challenges with respect to the recovery process. We will then explore learning health networks ability to engage the patient and family voice and the overall impact they can have on post-transplant care, quality improvement, and research. Finally, we will highlight the role of technology in facilitating patient education.

  • Outline the mission of a learning health network, and its potential contributions to post-transplant care.
  • Identify opportunities for engagement of patient partners and other stakeholders in liver transplant quality improvement and research.
  • Describe the advantages of laparoscopic liver donation with respect to recovery times compared to open liver donation.
  • Recognize the complication rate for laparoscopic liver donation.
  • Summarize the recipient outcomes following laparoscopic liver donation compared to open liver donation.
  • Review existing public patient education tools for pediatric liver transplantation.
  • Identify best practices in patient education.
  • Examine how novel (i.e. digital) technologies can enhance patient education and engagement.
