The Donation Conversation as a Process: How Research and Experience Can Be Used to Develop Evidence-Based Standards of Practice

This webinar will review evidence-based and current standard practice in referral timing of donor-eligible patients to the OPO and response to referrals; collaboration between OPOs and hospital healthcare teams, and content and nonverbal communication when discussing the donation opportunity with families. Ways of implementing evidence-based and standard practices into organizational processes will be discussed along with how hospital staff may best support and collaborate with OPOs to develop a donation positive hospital culture.

  • Describe the scientific evidence and best practices for family donation discussions about solid organ donation
  • Utilize experiential- and research– based evidence to implement family donation conversation standards into OPO processes to improve rates of family authorization and the family experience.
  • Improve OPO-hospital collaboration to create a donation positive hospital culture.
