iReferral℠ helps save more lives by increasing organ, tissue, and eye donation, as well as simultaneously liberating critical nursing hours and reducing redundant manual information entry by OPOs via the automatic, secure, and electronic referral of potential donors.
From Invita Healthcare Technologies: In 2023, Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA) partnered with InVita Healthcare Technologies (InVita) to launch iReferral EMR interoperability across twelve (12) of their partner hospitals spanning two Healthcare Systems. Implementation of InVita’s iReferral has enabled the automatic identification and immediate electronic donor referral from these hospitals to ARORA with the click of a button within the Epic EMR, thereby eliminating the time-intensive and manual initial referral phone call.
iReferral provides for configurable algorithmic clinical triggers to automate the process of identifying potential donors in the hospital EMR allowing healthcare providers to seamlessly deliver the necessary patient information for the initial referral instantly and electronically into the federally designated Organ Procurement Organization’s (OPO) iTransplant Systems.
Since launch this year, over 1,000 iReferrals have been sent to ARORA, saving over 350 hours of nursing time which otherwise would have been spent on the phone, allowing the nurses to remain at the bedside with their critically ill patients. At these hospitals that have launched iReferral, ARORA has seen a 117% increase in vented referrals which has translated to a 48% increase in organ donors and a 71% increase in organs transplanted. Among the hospitals that have gone live with iReferral, clinicians have reported positive impact for their patients, families, physicians, and their relationship with ARORA by decreasing the time to make referrals and increasing the number of referrals and donors.
“The first iReferral from Arkansas Children’s Hospital was within 2 hours after going live,” said Esther Pipkin, Director of Family Services at ARORA. “He was a 16-year-old male donor who saved 15 lives. Since the launch of iReferral we are now receiving referrals from new units, and we had our first ever donor from the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. We routinely hear from nursing and medical staff how much they appreciate iReferral and not having to spend time on the phone.”
“InVita Healthcare Technologies maintains a steadfast commitment to providing the most technologically advanced and purposeful software solutions for the organ and tissue donation and transplantation community,” said Todd Collins, President & Chief Executive Officer of InVita Healthcare Technologies. “It’s been great to see the meaningful life-saving benefits realized via our iReferral interoperability both across the country at well over a hundred hospitals thus far and regionally in Arkansas with our great OPO partner, ARORA.”
