Brief Bio

Jaclyn has over a decade of experience in ICU, flight, and trauma nursing. She also served in the US Navy and spent a year overseas in Kandahar, Afghanistan as a trauma nurse. She transitioned to the OPO world as an organ procurement coordinator in 2019 and fell in love with the mission of saving lives through donation. In 2023 she moved into the role of manager of organ services for Nevada Donor Network and remains passionate about the lifesaving work we all do.

Maximizing Donation Outcomes: Centralized DCD Recovery Strategies

Several OPOs nationwide have adapted the DCD recovery process by transferring patients to a centralized center in an effort to improve the quality of care and maximize donation outcomes. During this session, we will welcome three OPOs, in varying stages of the centralized DCD process, to share their experiences from inception to the current state. They will walk us through the hurdles they have navigated and the strategies that implemented to optimize success.

Historically transplant centers and OPOs have had a tumultuous relationship working against each other instead of towards to same common goal of getting patients off the transplant list and supporting donor families. This talk will discuss this relationship as well as proven strategies to help improve communication, collaboration, and collegiality. In the past two years Cedars Sinai and Lifesharing have actively worked on their collaboration, which has resulted in numerous successes that would have been impossible without being aware of each other’s needs.

Highlights from the OPTN Donation after Circulatory Death Procurement Collaborative

The OPTN DCD Procurement Collaborative Improvement project aimed to support nationwide efforts to increase organs available for transplant by identifying and sharing effective practices regarding approaches to DCD procurement. Many OPOs have successfully increased DCD volumes while maintaining or increasing DBD volumes. This session will provide an overview of the Collaborative and will include demonstrations from two OPOs on how they implemented DCD procurement changes to their processes throughout the course of the Collaborative.
