Inspirational videos telling the stories of donor families and organ transplant recipients from 10 organ procurement organizations (OPOs) across the country were shared at The Alliance 2021 National Donor Management Summit. Sharing a collection of “Stories that Honor the Purpose” will become an annual tradition at The Alliance’s annual conference.
The Alliance invited all 57 OPOs to share testimonial videos that are produced by OPO public relations, family services and community outreach teams. These stories help educate the community about the benefits of organ, eye and tissue donation, and are sometimes made available to potential donor families at the hospital bedside of a loved one. The stories demonstrate the healing that families have experienced through the donation legacy after the loss of their loved ones.
“We were honored to share several beautiful stories about our donor families and the recipients whose lives were saved through saying ‘yes’ to donation,” said Dorrie Dils, executive director of Gift of Life Michigan. “Sharing these touching stories with our national community of practice helps us to stay centered in our collective mission and purpose.”
The following OPOs shared stories at the National Donor Management Summit:
- Donor Network of Arizona, Tempe, AZ
- DonorConnect, Murray, UT
- Gift of Life Donor Program, Philadelphia, PA
- Gift of Life Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI
- LifeCenter Northwest, Bellevue, WA
- LifeSource, Minneapolis, MN
- LiveOnNY, Queens, NY
- Midwest Transplant Network, Westwood, KS
- OneLegacy, Los Angeles, CA
- Southwest Transplant Alliance, Dallas, TX

“We incorporated testimonials from OPOs across the country during break sessions of our annual conference to keep patients and donors in the forefront of our focus and to share the valuable work of the OPOs,” said Karri Hobson-Pape, executive director of The Alliance.
This year’s National Donor Management Summit focused on “new world changes,” current issues and innovative trends impacting the organ donation community by identifying challenges and highlighting opportunities to maximize every donation opportunity to heal more lives.
